Working In One Of Many Boutique Hotels Print E-mail

I am a staff member of one of the many boutique hotels found around the country. Sure, I could give you the name of the place but, that really is not necessary. I love my job and do not want to lose it but, I have a bit of a complaint and wish to share it here. If you think ill of me, then so be it. But, try to view things from my side of the box.

The hotel, I work for, is not affiliated with any major chain. There are approximately fifteen rooms in the whole establishment and I (along with six other individuals) work hard to keep rooms, and other facilities in the building clean and presentable. There are two chefs (besides the owner, who is an excellent cook), a full kitchen staff and we offer twenty-four hour room service.

I truly love my job and the people who I get the privilege to serve. It is my pleasure to see that I can help people to relax and enjoy their vacation or business venture. But, there are a few people who, no matter what I (or other personnel) did, would not be satisfied. These characters simply refused to get along with any other.

In writing all this, I hope that people will understand my job is how I make my living. But, even in doing what I must to pay my bills, I still love the work I do. It is not easy being a service person when there are people who seem to love living in misery. These individuals take their anger with them wherever they go, and work to make others cringe. If these people do not change the way they treat people, they will be very lonely.

I know people are in the serving business who do not do such a great job. Unfortunately, they seem to be the model many people use to describe the total serving community. Place yourselves in our lives for a moment and think how you would feel if everything you did simply ran into hateful scrutiny. Would you enjoy being screamed at and admonished? Would you like being told that you are stupid and useless?

I, and others like me, try to make you as comfortable as possible. Please work with us and not against us. Your enjoyment is our pleasure but, remember we are people, too.
